Via Tallahassee Democrat:

Beth White has been caring for animals at her home since the 1980s.

In August 2010, she joined Triple R Horse Rescue, a local nonprofit organization with a mission of rescuing and rehabilitating horses. The organization uses the help of volunteers who foster horses at their homes.

“When I get them, they are thin from neglect and oftentimes need medical care,” she said, reflecting on past horses.

Spirit is her most recent foster. White said the horse was in pretty bad shape when she was found tied to a tree with only pine cones to eat.

“It hurts my heart to see them like that,” she said.

Since its inception, the organization has rescued close to 30 horses, he said. About 20 have been adopted out to permanent homes. Right now the organization is fostering 12 horses, and there are about 20 volunteers.

The organization is run purely off the work of volunteers, [volunteer Linda Kleindienst] Bruns said. To fund their work, the members set up concessions at local horse shows such as the Red Hills Horse Trials. So far, selling hotdogs, hamburgers and soft drinks has been working out well.
